Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled General Counsel to join a real estate company in a management role. As the General Counsel, you will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for providing expert legal guidance and support to the organization. This is a highly visible position that requires exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and real estate expertise. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 PQE with a strong background in real estate law across the region. Prior experience in a startup or high-growth environment will be highly regarded.

- Develop and implement the legal strategy to support the company's business objectives and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Provide guidance on legal matters related to real estate transactions, contracts, leases, and other operational activities.
- Monitor changes in legislation and regulations affecting the real estate industry, and proactively advise the executive team on potential implications.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including real estate purchase agreements, lease agreements, construction contracts, and vendor agreements.
- Ensure contracts comply with legal requirements and protect the company's interests.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop standard contract templates and streamline contract management processes.
- Identify and assess legal risks associated with the company's operations, projects, and investments.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies and provide recommendations to senior management.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with external legal counsel and manage external legal engagements when required.
- Oversee and manage litigation matters, including coordinating with external counsel, reviewing legal documents, and providing guidance on litigation strategy.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to resolve disputes and negotiate settlements when necessary.
- Provide guidance on corporate governance matters, including board and shareholder meetings, corporate filings, and compliance with corporate governance best practices.
- Ensure compliance with relevant corporate laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Manage a team of legal professionals, providing leadership, guidance, and mentorship.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the legal team.
- Allocate resources effectively and prioritize workload to meet business objectives.
Key Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) as a lawyer, with a focus on real estate law.
- Strong knowledge of real estate transactions, contract law, leasing, and regulatory compliance across the region.
- Prior experience in a management role within the real estate industry is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience working in a startup or high-growth environment is advantageous.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise senior executives.
- Ability to think strategically and provide innovative legal solutions to complex issues.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of the commercial aspects of real estate transactions.
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills.
- Admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction(s).
