Our client, an industry-defining global platform, is looking to onboard a seasoned regional lead counsel of payments to oversee several markets the company operates in.

Joining a well-established team, the successful candidate will act as right-hand to the region’s legal head, taking on a leadership remit including broad spectrum of legal, regulatory compliance and advisory matters.

Experience in digital payments and fintech spheres (licensing, risk mitigation, policies) is essential, and ability to manage business stakeholders would be a key contributing factor to success in this role.

A minimum of 6 PQE and a strong desire to step into a management position will be indispensable.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business partners on wide scope of commercial and operational matters.
  • Ensure adherence of all payment services to relevant laws and policies across multiple regions.
  • Negotiate and manage payments and fintech contracts/agreements with the support of specialized team.
  • Work closely with leadership and stakeholders in furthering business operations and initiatives especially concerning digital payments and financial services related domain.
  • Act as key liaison and manage relationships with local regulators.
  • Contribute to building regional compliance and governance framework concerning payments and financial products.
  • Oversee and localize regulatory compliance framework in multiple locations in partnership with local teams and assist in license applications.
  • Advise and support in policy changes/investigations/risk mitigation as and when needed.

Key Requirements

  • More than 6 PQE with degree from well reputed law school.
  • Legal qualification in common law jurisdiction.
  • Well-versed in digital payments-related matters in APAC region (particularly in payments licensing).
  • Refined communicator with excellent language proficiency.
  • Highly attuned to business needs and able to apply legal knowledge commercially.
  • Independent decision maker with ability to manage junior lawyers and coordinate multiple parties effectively.
