Our client is a leading ASEAN pre-IPO Unicorn. Due to business expansion and upcoming capital event, the company is looking to fill a newly created General Counsel role.

Reporting into the CEO, the successful candidate will be given the remit to advise on all legal matters across the group. This is a senior executive role with team management responsibilities (>10 and growing). The General Counsel will be involved in both strategic and operational matters and will be expected to be a hands-on leader, leading by example, and further developing the capability of the legal function.

You are LLB/LLM qualified and called to the Bar with at least 15 PQE. You have spent time with top tier international law firms (Corporate Practice) as well as with in-house roles. Experience with a fast-growing tech startup will be very well-regarded.

To be successful in the role, you will need have a proven track record in being a hands-on leader, have strong stakeholder management skills and excellent broad based legal experience

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead, manage and develop the Legal function at the group level
  • Build senior stakeholders on a broad range of legal, regulatory and compliance matters
  • Manage and advise on both transactional (M&A, Capital Markets) as well as general corporate commercial matters
  • Manage the company IP portfolio
  • Develop, manage, and enhance the company’s contract management system
  • Select and manage external counsels as and when required for matters across multiple jurisdictions
  • Keep abreast of developments in the legal and regulatory landscape to ensure company’s policies and compliance framework remain robust and relevant
  • Advise and support the CEO on strategic initiatives as well as oversee Board of Directors on corporate secretarial/regulatory compliance matters

Key Requirements 

  • JD/LLB/LLM qualified and called to the Bar
  • Min 15 PQE
  • In-house and/or top tier law firm (International Corporate Practice) experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effectively bilingual in English and 1 other Asian language will be very well regarded but not required
