Senior Backend Engineer, Malaga, Java, Spring, Hybrid working, $55k-$80k base, APIs, Kubernetes

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join a fast growing fintech engineering team working at the heart of open banking. This role is focused on building and scaling backend services and APIs that power modern financial products. You’ll be working in a distributed system environment, collaborating closely with product, support, and customer-facing teams, and contributing to technical decisions that have real impact.

What you’ll be doing

Building and maintaining scalable, secure backend services and APIs

Working closely with product managers and stakeholders to shape requirements

Debugging and troubleshooting distributed systems in production

Participating in code reviews and raising engineering standards across the team

Designing RESTful APIs with an API-first mindset

Learning and working with open banking and PSD-related integrations

What we’re looking for

Strong experience with Java and the Spring framework

Hands-on experience with microservices and Kubernetes

Comfortable debugging distributed systems, including tracing and observability

Experience designing RESTful APIs and understanding trade-offs

Product-minded engineer who cares about customer outcomes

Able to work independently while contributing to team goals

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar, with 5+ years commercial experience

Comfortable working in a fast paced, startup-style environment
